April 7, 2013: Australia and New Zealand will switch to standard time

Australia and New Zealand will go back to standard time on Sunday 7 April 2013: at 03:00 the clocks go back one hour to 02:00.^[1]

Some parts of Australia do not use daylight saving time (DST); only the areas that do will change their clocks.

These states and territories use daylight saving time, and their clocks go back at 03:00 on 7 April 2013:^[1]

• Australian Capital Territory - Canberra
• New South Wales - Sydney
• South Australia - Adelaide
• Tasmania - Hobart
• Victoria - Melbourne
• Lord Howe Island (the clocks go back only 30 minutes)

All of New Zealand uses daylight saving time. The only exception to the schedule is the Chatham Islands, where the clocks go back at 03:45, to 02:45.^[1]

Update, 26 October 2026: The rules are still the same: summer time ends at 03:00 on the first Sunday of April. Australia's summer time began again on 4 October 2026 and New Zealand's on 27 September 2026, and in 2027 both go back on 4 April 2027.^[2][3] See also: Australia starts daylight saving time on October 7, 2012.
