Egypt will introduce daylight saving time (DST) in summer 2016 after enjoying one full year of 2015 with no time changes.
The cabinet announced on 28th April 2016 that the summer time change will take place on 7 July 2016.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi canceled summer time in April 2015 to prevent that year clock changes. Since the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, there were four clock changes in Egypt in 2014. The two extra changes were needed to follow standard time during Ramadan since Ramadan is during summer.
Egypt has a colorful history of time changes. First time the country implemented daylight saving time in 1988. It was followed every year until 2011 when it was abolished.
In years 2011 to 2013 there were no summer time changes. In 2014 daylight saving time was implemented again but only for that year.
Daylight saving time was not followed in 2015 and in 2016 DST is scheduled to start in July two days after Ramadan ends.
