North Korea is currently in the same time zone as South Korea and Japan. However North Korea is to create a new time zone to mark its liberation from the Japanese at the end of World War II, explains Korean central news agency KCNA.
KCNA said "wicked Japanese imperialists" had "deprived Korea of even its standard time" by changing the clocks during occupation.
Pyongyang Time will be UTC +8:30 starting on 15 August while in South Korea and Japan the time zone will remain in UTC +9.
The entire Korean peninsula during the time as it was one country was following UTC +8:30 until 1910 when Japan colonized it.
