Chile decided to extend daylight saving time for this summer to save energy. The new date to switch clocks back to standard time is at midnight between Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28, 2013.
With this decision the daylight saving time period becomes seven weeks longer. Also last year Chile extended daylight saving time. These new schedules are set to save energy.
The new daylight saving time start date for 2013 in Chile is at midnight between Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8. This is five weeks earlier than in the original plan.
Usually the daylight saving time lasts in Chile from the second Sunday in October to the second Sunday in March. However, since the current energy issues in Chile, the government is making extra effort to improve the current conditions. The longer daylight saving time period is to help with the situation.
