13-year-old boy, Nathan Flynn, was present in the debate on 16th February in the Utah House of Representatives over a bill that would abolish daylight saving time in Utah. He instructed the Utah lawmakers that people would have their lights on for several more hours a day than would normally, which doesn't sound smart.
Nathan Flynn may have had some influence to the decision making, since the Members of the House Government Operations Standing Committee voted the proposal down on a 6-3 vote.
Utah lawmaker, Jim Nielson, was the initiator in the attempt to stop the use of the daylight saving time in Utah. If the proposal would have gone through, would Utah stay in mountain standard time the entire year rather than switching between standard and daylight saving time each spring and fall.
