New 2013 fall back date for Paraguay

Iguazu Falls, Paraguay

The President of Paraguay’s National Electricity Administration (ANDE), Carlos Heisele, announced a change in the fall back schedule for this autumn. Instead of switching back on April 14, the time switch will occur three weeks earlier on March 24. The time change will take place at midnight between Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, 2013.

The clocks will be adjusted one hour backwards from the midnight to 11:00 pm of Saturday, March 23, 2013.

The decision was made in a meeting with the President Federico Franco and with the head of ANDE. The meeting was held in Mburuvichá Roga, which is the official residence for the President and for the First Lady of Paraguay.

The reason behind the fall back schedule change is to prevent school children to walk to school in the morning darkness. By switching to standard time a bit earlier will ease with the situation.

Whether the spring forward date will be changed as well is still open and will be informed on a later date.

Note that Paraguay is located in the southern hemisphere so the country is following daylight saving time when the USA and Europe are in standard time and standard time when the USA and Europe are in daylight saving time.
